Flooding In South East Queensland – Grave Situation.
Evacuations are taking place in Brisbane today. Australia’s third- largest city, is under imminent threat as flooding is expected to be exacerbated by the king tide at 3am tomorrow morning.
I took part as a volunteer in the cleanup of the 1974 Brisbane flood. If this flood is going to be as high as in 1974 as predicted, the impact will be greater – as there are a lot more people and developments in Brisbane now.
I remember well arriving in Brisbane after the 1974 flood, there was flotsam hanging off the telegraph wires where coronation street is now – and a bull had swam into the second floor of the Brisbane hotel.
For those who did not witness the 1974 Brisbane flood it is hard to imagine what we are in for. I make a plea to all those being asked to leave and head to higher ground – do so immediately.
Brisbane was rebuilt – better than ever and it will be rebuilt again – what can’t be recovered is the loss of our loved ones – my heart goes out to all those who have already lost their loved ones to this disaster.
For the rest – KEEP SAFE.
